Knock off Ballard Garden District Mirrors from…Goodwill!!!

I swear sometimes I think things are just sitting at the thrift store waiting for me to come pick them up!  I have had in my mind for a while now that I wanted to do a knock-off version of Ballard’s Garden District Mirrors.
Garden District Mirrors
I thought I could get a few of those closet door mirrors and jazz them up with some bronze-colored vinyl to look like the metal embellishment on the mirrors.  Looks like I won’t have to go that route.  Just sitting on the shelf at Goodwill, waiting for me to find them were these:
I mean, I couldn’t believe it.  I saw the first one, and then noticed another behind it. And then, could it be? A third one to match?  And for how much?  3 bucks a piece???  Needless to say, I was more than a little excited to get these babies home and get to work!
First, I removed the mirrors from the frames.  The metal scrolly pieces were screwed in with tiny screws.  They popped right out.

I sanded down the frames and applied several coats of Heirloom white.
Once they were dry, I took a sanding block (left over from the sheetrock nightmare) and lightly sanded the edges to give them a distressed look.
Here is the final product:

Ballard’s version: $300
My version: $10
Hope everyone’s having a great week!

  1. Oh man! Those are SO pretty! What an awesome find! I have to admit I'm a little jealous. My goodwill stinks, both merchandise quality and the smell of the store. It is 99% clothes, have never found a thing. But good for you!

  2. Great job! How amazing that they were just what you wanted and you were able to replicate the Ballard ones for $10! They look super. I'm your linky neighbor over at Twice Owned Tuesday. I hope you'll stop by and say 'hello'.
